Accommodation tips for Nigerian students

  • Apply early: For university dorms, accommodation is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply as soon as you receive your admission letter.
  • Get a Czech contact: Private landlords often want a local reference or Czech co-signer. Establish contact with your university's student services first.
  • Use trusted platforms: Sreality.cz and university housing offices are reliable. Avoid deals that seem too good to be true.
  • Utilities included?: Always clarify whether utilities (water, electricity, heating, internet) are included. In winter, heating can add CZK 1,000-2,000/month.
  • Residence permit proof: Your accommodation address is your official residence for the Foreign Police. Keep a signed lease or dorm confirmation letter.
  • Banking for deposits: You'll need a Czech bank account to pay deposits and rent. Open this quickly after arrival (Wise, Wise, or Czech banks like ČSOB, Komerční banka).
  • Transport: Student passes for public transport cost around CZK 320/month (approx NGN 1,400) in most cities. Most accommodation near universities has good access.
